PROJECT

Marwell Keeper's Kitchen

Project Description

CLIENT: Marwell Zoo

PROJECT: Keeper's Kitchen

The 'Keeper’s Kitchen' at Marwell Zoo in Southampton is NOW OPEN!
SMD provided Quantity Surveying services for this fantastic project on behalf of new client Marwell.

Located at the entrance to the Zoo, this fantastic space aims to connect with more members of the local community and appeal to the wider visiting public by making this part of the Zoo more accessible. The new 100-seater Café is a key part of Marwell’s biggest guest services investment in over 2-decades and offers a bright, relaxing environment to unwind after a busy day exploring and has been sensitively designed to fit well with the existing retail space.

The Café area has been carefully reconfigured with fresh decorations, lighting and counter worktops added incorporating sustainability elements using reclaimed wood.

There is also a peaceful outdoor terrace overlooking Black Swan Pond.

Marwell has worked in close partnership with top Hampshire Fare suppliers offering quality produce from Hoxton Bakehouse, Owton’s butchers, New Forest Tea, Hambledon Vineyard, Jude’s Ice Cream, and Honey Bee Happy.

We would like to thank Marwell for the opportunity to work alongside the project team to deliver this important local contract.

Marwell is a hugely important charity that relies on tourism, generous donations and events and all profits from The Keeper’s Kitchen go towards their conservation efforts.

The café and terrace are also an ideal location for cycling pit-stops, small business meetings or a cuppa and cake...go and check it out - www.marwell.org.uk/keeperskitchen/
