SMD have been working with the Aldingbourne Trust for many years. The Trust provides real skills, care and jobs in a very 21st century way for adults with learning disabilities. They believe in the power of strong partnerships between social enterprise and charity fundraising and its impact on their client’s real choices and ability to live more independent lives.

 

We are very proud to have provided project management and quantity surveying services for their new £4.5m Conference Centre. The new building is based over three levels consisting of a new 110 seater conference centre, café, shop, offices, and not forgetting an indoor slide!

Project Brief

The brief from the Trust was to provide an iconic building that was environmentally sustainable. The building was to be the gateway to the whole of the site as well as providing state of the art conference facilities to expand their growing business. The building was to provide new office facilities for the staff, and a café to cater to members of the public whilst allowing for the training of their clients. The building was also designed to be fun!

Project Solution / Outcome

Working in partnership with a great design team, contractor and sub-contractors, we managed to deliver a wonderful award winning building. Winning a Sussex Heritage Trust Award in 2020.  The challenge was to create a high-quality visitor centre within a limited budget, and following a very detailed value engineering exercise, we ended up producing a very economical building as well.
